London is full of life and possibilities. My friend Bing is from Guangdong originally. She has now been pretty successful in running her own Chinese medicine clinics in London. She achieved all this without speaking much English. Now she's enrolled to study English properly so that she can expand her mini-empire further.
My other friend DB who describes himself a nomad is very enterprising. He's been travelling so much and now feels more at home in London. He just helped to launch Lord's Cricket ground's own label whisky and gin. What a marketing coup with such a strong brand for international cricket. the new bottles are slimmed and more elegant and the packaging is more fitting for the well-to-do class.
While dining in a Sardinia restaurant in Kentish Town with a friend AD who's just had twin girls I noticed the waitresses were blond Polish girls who are obviously here seeking their fortune. London has so many museums and art galleries and bars and pubs as well as good restaurants. There is never a dull moment even if the weather is not always delightful. Job opportunities are still abundant. One only needs to scratch the surface to find that gold.
The new BP portrait show at the National Portrait Gallery is rather interesting. Some of the style is so photo-like with the overall finish. One wonders whether it's better just to have a good quality photo. Art has to find its own way eventually. While at Hayward Gallery they built a pond on top of the roof where you can row in a little boat in the water. What a delightful way of spending a sunny afternoon!
There are also so many free music events going on all over London. It's rather delightful to be able to participate in some of these activities.
